since i was in town i stopped at the university bookstore just to check out what education teachers were assigning their english teachers to read. i was supprised to find tangerine on the shelf along with old classics like huckleberry finn. but what really caught my eye was the sale table.
picked out the following:
louise erdrich the master butchers singing club
terrence green shadow of ashland
kerry macLeand pigs over boulder (which just made me mostly homesick)

i have read erdrich before, very quirky but i love the way she describes things and the way she uses words. her reality is just to wierd to be really true but is more real than most books i read. don't understand how that can be.

just starting shadow of ashland, i didn't realize it was a sci-fi book which is fine with me. will see how it goes.. gets great reviews

but my favorite book of the fall was a gift from my daughter for my birthday...that old ace in the hole by annie proulx which was wonderful to read partly because i had been to the places mentioned in the book and had lived in small towns like the ones described and heard stories from my grandmother that echoed the mood of her stories.
